I want to study at Nanhua University

My name is Vitor Alves, I am eighteen years old and I am from Brazil. Speci cally, I am from Sao Paulo town. In Brazil, I lived with my mom and my dad, and I have a older sister. She is married with two sons. As for myself, I have a Brazilian girlfriend. Ever since I was nine years old I liked soccer because my father watched a lot of soccer matches on TV, and it made me love soccer. I started playing at school during physical education classes and never stopped. I also practiced in some soccer schools at my neighborhood, and had won some championships in di erent teams. I had become a soccer player and it was one of my biggest dreams. I studied at the schools located within my neighborhood and graduated from high school last year. At the beginning of this year, I had received the opportunity of staying in the Zu Lai Temple for around six months to learn about Chinese culture, about the English language as well as Chinese language, and overall prepared myself to come to Taiwan to study at Nan Hua University (and play soccer). That six months in Zu Lai Temple was very important to me, because I had not only learned about the Chinese and English language, I also learned about life. It helped me a lot in becoming who I am now. I had grown a great deal during my stay there. I arrived in Taiwan about a month ago and it is my rst semester in NHU. I am currently a freshman, and my major is tourism management.

I want to study at Nan Hua University because it is a great university with a good structure. I am sure that this university will provide me with a good future. I believe it will open many doors for me when I return to my country, or even if I decide to stay here instead. My future vision is to become uent in English and Chinese, as well as graduate at NHU. I also want to aim for a second degree (psychology) at a di erent university, perhaps also outside of my country. Among other goals, I want to purchase a house for my parents and one of my own; I also want to live in England and work within the tourism industry there. Last but not least, I want to create a social project to help poor children, and give good opportunities to them too.

I want to study at Nanhua University

Hello, my name is Lucas. I'm 19 years old and I come from Brazil. I have come here to participate in the fultebol (soccer) project and to complete the faculty team. One of the most di cult problems for me, and for the colleagues who came with me, was the weather and learning a second language.

The climate of Brazil is tropical, and in my city Sao Paulo, the climate changes every two hours. For example: It goes from cold in the afternoon to hot, and in the evening it rains, then it is hot from morning to afternoon, and then hot again at night. I’m slowly trying to get used to this different climate. In terms of the language, it is a little more complicated because in Brazil, the people normally only speak the Brazilian language (Portuguese). So, in coming to Taiwan, I had to both learn a good level of English, and then the basics of Mandarin. These are all steps we take one after another in achieving our goals.

During the rst time that I had come to Taiwan, I had one of the best experiences in Nanhua's college. So when I received the invitation to come and study, I could not turn it down even though it was not a course I had considered at all. When I nish my studies in the area of tourism I intend to study in other areas such as civil aviation, information technology, law, and even medicine until the end of my life, I also intend to reciprocate everything that was made available to me. I want more people to have the same opportunity for studies that I had, and I hope to change the world by at least a little bit. I look to achieve this not just through helping others with their studies, but I will also use all the knowledge that I have, and also the knowledge that I have yet to acquire to make this happen.

The freshness of college life

I have been a college student for one year now. The freshness and variety of the college life had disappeared as the routines of daily life had replaced it. I felt that my life had come to a stand still, and I did not know what to do. During this time, an exchange student had come to me and told me that it was time for me to make a change. “Make a change,” is the main reason why I had decided to come to Taiwan and revisit my studies at Nanhua University, with its both unfamiliar and spiritual environment.

It turns out in doing so, I had made the correct choice. I had changed a lot and learned more than I could ever imagine. It was a great chance to broaden my horizon as I experienced a di erent style of teaching and culture here. While it’s hard to express my thankfulness here.... Thank you, Qingdao Binhai College for giving me this opportunity, and thank you Nanhua University for accepting an imperfect me and giving me the opportunity to improve.

I come from Fujian

I come from Fujian province, mainland China, which is only 120km away from Taiwan acrossa strait. Because of where I was born, I have so many connections with this beautiful island.

First, we all use the same language (Chinese) and this not only makes my life easier in Taiwan, but also allows me to meet new people. After about a month from when I arrived Taiwan, I found that people are so kind here. They are willing to give people a helping-hand without a second thought. As a result, I am able to travel to many places without fear or hesitation. Second, the society in Taiwan is so humanized and full of benevolence. I have seen so many disabled people that are very content about living here. I even received help from a disabled student in Nanhua University when I was about to get a wrong bus to the downtown area. This is totally a brand new experience for me.

Although Taiwan is so close to mainland China in terms of geography, there are also so many differences between them. For example, I like Taiwan because of its tolerance towards different cultures. For me, I am crazy about meeting new people from various backgrounds, experiencing cultures and tasting exotic foods. I have made so many new friends here at Nanhua University. Actually, I am able to meet foreigners almost in everywhere in Taiwan. Through talking with these foreigners, my horizon has been broadened to a new level.

Last but not least is education. The teachers at Nanhua University are so dedicated to their work. They all take care of every student and o er individual attention to each of them. Although I feel a lot of pressure studying here, it is still worth it. I have gained so many skills and information bene cial to my future career. For me, this is really a great opportunity and I really enjoy living and studying in Taiwan.

Vietnam

September 15th at 2:17am, we, four Vietnamese students, had set our rst steps out at the Kaohsiung International Airport in Taiwan. Among three Vietnamese students, one is my professor at my university in Vietnam–FTU and the other two are my friends. We had all come to Taiwan to study at Nanhua University (NHU) in Chiayi county. My professor will be studying their PhD degree here, and the other two will studying their Masters and Bachelor degrees. I will also be studying a bachelor degree as an exchange student. Although we have all come here with each a di erent purpose in mind, we had all felt thrilled and a little bit worried too. We had tons of mixed feelings that couldn't be adequately described. We just knew that from that moment onwards, we would be spending a period of our life in a new land, which is 1709 km far from our homeland. My journey in Taiwan had begun.

NHU assigned two representatives to pick us up at the airport and help us with our luggage. There was also a minivan that would take us to the university. They told me that NHU really welcomed and cared about its students. Even though it was really dark at the time, I was truly amazed when we reached the school gate because I could see that this school campus was huge. It was more than I could imagine! I was so excited that I took a walk around the campus next morning. I really love spending time walking around the quiet campus on sunny days, or during sunset because I feel so peaceful when I am close to nature where I can breathe some fresh air and enjoy the amazing view of the university. I believe NHU is an ideal example of a green campus and environmental education.

This is the rst time I have stayed in a faraway place without my family and my dear house. It felt a bit strange to sleep in the dormitory with other people, or even just on a bed which is not my bed at home. However, I soon started to feel comfortable with my room and my life there because the dormitory, Yuan Qi, is really like a hotel for me. That was outside of my expectations again! My roommates are two Taiwanese students who are really nice to me. They have helped me a lot and showed me a lot of interesting things not just at NHU but also in Taiwan.

I loved NHU more and more when I had met the professors, the sta and the students here. They are all really friendly and caring. On top of that, NHU is unique as it o ers a cultural environment and focuses on general education as well as humanistic spirit. I love the way every road in NHU campus has a special name, namely: Three Goodness Road, Three Good Deeds Road, and Four Graces Road. In NHU, almost everything and everyone will make you behave well, do good things and say nice words. Or in other words, become better people. I feel at home when I am in NHU, and I believe that I made the right decision to study here.

The decision to go abroad in pursuit of higher education in another country is a big challenge to present to anyone. There are so many di culties to overcome such as culture, language and so on. Once you get along with the new environment, however, you will have gained a great experience in life.

I am not an exception when having made up my mind to become an international student of Nanhua University. At the time, I had just graduated from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University where I majored in nance and banking. I had spent an additional eight months in Vietnam accumulating work experience in several companies. However, I was still interested in studying and researching more about finance and business. Luckily, Nanhua University had given me this opportunity in the form of a scholarship where I could continue my aspirations in business and administration. Now, I am on my second semester of my masters degree.

Nine months ago, I had prepared all the essentials for my student life in Taiwan. Except Chinese. I had thought that I would be conducting my course entirely in English, and that it would not necessarily have been a big deal if I did not know Chinese. I was wrong. There was so much trouble when I would try to buy something, or ask how to get somewhere. The language barrier was extremely stressful to me. NHU, understanding the di culties of the international students who did not speak Chinese, recommended me to participate in a Chinese class. With three classes a week, my Chinese had gradually improved and it helped me so much in my daily life. The great thing is that while every class is interesting, it’s also free.

During my time here, all the professors and sta had always supported me. They are friendly, enthusiastic, responsible and overall very professional. They always tried their best to solve the problems of the students as soon as possible. The university also focuses on upgrading its facilities and their teaching equipment so that we can study in a modern library and utilise a good online system.

At NHU, there are also many cultural activities for international students. We were able to visit famous places in Taiwan like the Fo Guang Shan Memorial Museum, Alishan, Nantou and Yilan. After all of these interesting activities, I have had many opportunities to discover the beauty of Taiwan. Now, I have many great stories to tell and many memorable experiences to call my own. I will always appreciate the things that I have received and experienced as a student here at NHU.

Mongolia

Mongolia is a landlocked country in Central Asia and is bordered on the north by the Russian Federation and on the south by the People's Republic of China. It is, also, the 18th biggest country in the world, with an area of 1,564,116 km2 (603,909 sq mi). The largest city and capital city is Ulaanbaatar.

Mongolia enjoys more than 250 days of sunshine a year, which has earned it the nickname "Land of the Eternal Blue Sky" or "Country of Blue Sky". Mongolia's climate is extreme, and though most of the country is hot in summer, temperatures can plummet to -30 degrees Celsius in winter. Indeed, the capital, Ulaanbaatar, is the world's chilliest capital city, with an average temperature of -1.3 degrees.

Mongolia is famous for the nomadic way of life - it's one of the world's few remaining nomadic cultures - and it's estimated that between 30% and 40% of the country's people live like this. Mongolia's nomads are herdsmen, surviving by farming livestock such as camels, cattle and horses, and moving around to exploit the best conditions for doing so at di erent times of the year. But there's more to Mongolia's population than the nomadic tribes for which it is best known. 45% of the Mongolian population live in the busy cities, where life is a lot more up-to-date.

I’m from Mongolia

One One of the many blissful desires in every person’s life is to have a warm and loving family, I am so fortunate to have such one. My name is Haliun Ulzii-Orshikh, and I’m from Mongolia. I am proud to say that I am a product of the love given to me by my parents.

I am currently studying business administration here at Nanhua University. The opportunity to enrich my knowledge of these fundamental disciplines within an educational context, as well as the emphasis on the importance of global business and internationalism all leads me squarely to Nanhua. In addition, I feel that the coursework will enhance my intellectual understanding of global business models and strategy. These teachings will serve as my long term aim in leading a multinational corporation.

This university also boasts an extremely dynamic international student body. This allows me to learn from global representatives located from all over the world, and understand both our cultural similarities as well as di erences. I have a special notebook, and written within is the dreams of my ten year old self. This notebook contains my future plans, a long list for travelling, and the things that I want to strive for (such as pictures of my future apartment, and my car). The most important dream written there is my company called “STARLIT” which is designed entirely by me. My short-term goal is dedicated to business administration, but that is just a part of my ultimate objective-to design the business model for a multinational corporation. With the disappearance of economic borders and the emergence of transnational business networks and agreements, Nanhua’s rich curriculum and global perspective will furnish me with the educational training and practical skills that I need to achieve my professional aspiration. Each di erent experience is absorbed and integrated, forming a new entity that is greater than the sum of its parts. All these loosely interconnected lessons have coalesced into a greater understanding of the wants and needs of my fellow man that I will work tirelessly to support. My unique life and upbringing gives me an international perspective that will be a force for a great good in an ever changing and shrinking world.

People arrive within this universe to both take and to receive from each other. Helping someone with no second thought does not fill your pockets, but it does fill your heart. I think that doing voluntary labor and helping others alongside classmates and friends is a responsibility of ours. When I return to my country l plan to take as many positive things as I can with me, and apply it there. I hope to become a successful professional. It is my desire and passion to contribute my education and management skills to my country, I know that my country possesses all the tools to become as great and as developed as Taiwan.

My name is Tsolmon Bayasgalankhuu. I am from Mongolia. I was born into a sweet and great family. I am very close to my parents and my older sisters. I share my concern with them and do girl talks very often just like best friends do. Family to me is a safe harbor and place where I grow and learn. My hobbies are playing music instrument (ukulele), riding a skateboard and playing table tennis. I focused on achieving my goals including learning the English language, participating in extracurricular activities, and doing well in all my classes. Gradually, I became more interested in reading English books; I am most interested in modern literature such as Da Vinci Code written by Dan Brown and many others.

This year I am a sophomore in the department of Foreign Language and Literature, Nanhua University. I immediately enrolled in Nanhua university after I graduated high school in Mongolia. The reason that why I have chosen Nanhua university is it is located in Taiwan. Taiwan’s education system provides students with higher knowledge. Thus, our school teachers always support students who need help. It is also a safe and comfortable environment to study. Especially, Nanhua university’s environment is quite a calm and surrounded by nature. Our school provides and supports us various kind of conditions. In our school, every student can improve their ability such as sports and art.

Moving into a new country and settling here was a huge challenge for me. But I got a chance to know students from di erent countries. Besides broadening my horizon, I also tried to show and explain to my new friends how beautiful and wonderful our culture is. I believe I have become a person who is more independent and mature. I can now face my own aws and make amends for my mistakes. Besides facing my own aws, I am willing to face all kinds of challenges in my life.

Taiwan’s education system is good

My goal for studying at Nanhua University of Taiwan

My name is TSELMEG. I graduated from my school in Ulaanbaatar (the capital city of Mongolia) with emphasis on the study of English language. Currently, I am junior at Nanhua University’s Department of Business Administration. Back at home, I lived with my parents and my brother.

I had discovered Nanhua University during an introductory meeting held at my old school. There, I had received a reference booklet and other materials. I really liked the policy and goal of Nanhua University and would like to study in this university. Cultivate basic knowledge of the humanities, Nurture a spirit of caring and service and a thankful heart with a passion for giving back, cultivate a sense of responsibility, enthusiasm and desire to contribute society. These mottos of Nanhua University is meets my dream. I'm happy that Nanhua University is cultivating their motto not only to Taiwan students but also to international students. Students from many countries of the world will study under these mottos and aid the knowledge and wisdom to their country.

My homeland, Mongolia, has many mutual relationships with other countries. I think that in globalization era the knowledge of foreign language is very important. My view of life will be more developed and I will become a humane person with self-sustained life, good vision, and high profession by studying in Nanhua University together with many students of di erent countries and become one of best personnel that contribute to development of my country.

Malaysia

Malaysia takes its origins from the Malay Kingdoms located in the area. During the 18th century, it became subject to the British Empire. The territories in Peninsular Malaysia were rst uni ed as the Malayan Union in 1946. Malaya was then restructured as the Federation of Malaya in 1948. It then went on to gain independence as Malaysia on the 31st of August, 1957.

The country is both multi-ethnic and multi-cultural, which plays a large role in politics. With a population over 30 million people, about half the population is primarily Malay, though it also has a minority consisting of Chinese, Indian and other indigenous people. The constitution grants freedom of religion but also recognises Islam as the established religion of the state. The o cial and national language of Malaysia is Malay language (Bahasa Melayu) and English as our second language. Malaysia is famous for its cuisine. With the in uence from the Malay, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Javanese and Sumatran culture, the cuisine uses lots of ancient spices and this combination results in a unique variety of dishes that is popular all over the world.

My rst time studying abroad

My name is Soon Xin Hui, and I'm from Malaysia. I lived in a city called Johor Bahru, which is near Singapore. There are five people in my family, and they are my father, mother, my sister, my brother and then myself. My father is a businessman. He is the director of a shipping company in Johor. My mother is a housewife, but she will be receiving her master’s in psychology next year. I love to travel around the world, taking great pictures and most of all, drag racing.

Now I studying in the Department of Life and Death here at Nanhua University. It is my rst year here and I feel excited and also a little depressed, because it’s my rst time studying abroad and I can`t rely on anyone but myself. Everything here seems odd to me because I have to learn a lot of things by my own. As times goes on, I have learned to adapt to life here. I’ve made a lot of good friends, been to a lot of places together and we keep each other company. Sometimes I miss my friends and family back at home, but I know they are counting on me. I will work hard on my studies here at NHU to make my family proud.

Seeing is believing

Seeing is believing. Since I was in high school, I have always wanted to study abroad, especially to Taiwan. Taiwan is a place full of humanity and I discover more and more unique places as the days pass. I come to love Taiwan even more than before.

You can call me Xuan. I’m twenty years old, Chinese, and I come from Malaysia. I am a junior year and I study at Nanhua University’s Department of Business. My rst impression when I came to NHU was, “Wow, what a beautiful place. There are plants all around the campus, the air is fresh, and the environment is good.” When I studied in the business department, I told myself that I needed to learn something and become more independent. I needed to pay attention and stay focused in order to achieve a successful life.

My life was full of challenges, and I used to be a timid person, but I needed to change--To face the challenges ahead and gain experience from it. Perhaps it might all fail, but it can still turn out to be a wonderful life. I hope I can learn a lot of things here at NHU. My challenges still continue ahead.

Seeing is believing

I am a 20 year old student from Ipoh, Malaysia. When I rst came to Taiwan about three years ago, I studied in NTNU's Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students. Upon nishing the programme, I went to Nanhua University in Chiayi County. From a city to the countryside, I wasn't really used to it at rst because of the lack of public transportation. But the longer I stayed here, the more I loved this place.

During the past two years that I have spent here in Nanhua, I made a lot of Taiwanese friends, mostly from the southern part of Taiwan. I came to understand the cultural differences between Taiwan and Malaysia, which I would not have noticed had I not been given the chance to live like a Taiwanese student. Moreover, born in a multilingual country, I happened to like learning new languages. My Taiwanese friends taught me how to speak Taiwanese, and I am nding it amusing.

The thing I love about Taiwan is that it is full of beautiful scenery. I have been to most places except for the eastern part of Taiwan and its surrounding islands. The place I love the most, for now, is Kenting. I love the awless sapphire blue waters and the strong wind brushing across my face. Even though my life here has its ups and downs, I am really glad that I made the choice to come to Taiwan, and I surely will miss the life here when I return home.

My name is Aman Raj ( 達喜 ). I am 20 years old and I come from India. My hometown is Nalanda. Nalanda is a place where one of the most important disciples of Buddha, Sariputra, was born. The area also has great history in academic. Nalanda is famous for Nalanda Mahavihara which was a large Buddhist monastery in the ancient kingdom of Magadha (modern day Bihar). It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nalanda is located about 95 kilometers (59 mi) southeast of Patna near the town of Bihar Sharif. It was a centre of learning from the 50th century CE to 1200 CE. There is a rich heritage for the Buddhists in Nalanda. Rajgir is situated 15 kilometers south-west of Nalanda. Rajgir was Magadha’s capital at the time of Buddha. The rst Buddhist council was held at Rajgir, and Buddha had taught at Vulture Peak ( 靈鷲山 ). There, he taught a famous sutra “Lotus Sutra” in Sanskrit, as well as the Saddharma Pundarika Sutra ( 妙法蓮華經 ) as well as many more. Although this is not a big city, but it is clean and peaceful.

My family is made up of only three people. My father is a high school teacher and mother is a housewife. Although she is a housewife, but she was the rst teacher that I had in my life. I love both my mom and dad, they are important in my life. In the future I want to give them a lot of things in hopes that they will always happy because of me, and that they will always bless me.

I choose Taiwan for my academic learning because I want to study Chinese Buddhism, and what the status of Buddhism is within Chinese tradition. For my research I must become closer to both ancient and modern Chinese culture as well as traditions. I think Taiwan is the best country for this. The Taiwanese still preserve their Chinese cultures and traditions.

I knew about Nanhua University from Professor Chueming who travelled to Nalanda last year with the president of Nanhua University. At that time I had guided them with the little bit Chinese language skill that I had. I asked the president if I could attend his school for my future studies, and he did not refuse me. This is also another characteristic of the Taiwanese people. They never say no, they are always very polite, and always ready to help. After coming to Nanhua, I received more than I expected. Thank you, my Nanhua family.

Hong Kong

I love Taiwan

Hong Kong itself is a little island with the sea surrounding three of its sides. It has abundance of marine resources. and there are 7,000,000 people living here. With the e orts of its people, they have gone from a small shing port to an international city--A Pearl of the Orient under the in uence of globalization. In addition to its average citizen, there are people who have also come from all over the world. Hong Kong will celebrate Chinese festivals and Western festivals here, they also have a freedom of religion.

Hello, my name is Harry. I come from a small family in Hong Kong. My father works there as a technical personnel within the watch industry and my mother is a housewife. My younger brother is now in a relationship, and we live as a family of four in a happy life.

As a person, I am approachable and polite. I get along with my fellow classmates. I served as the monitor during elementary school, and in middle school I was a sound technician in the Chinese Modern Drama Society. I was also the Western Orchestra violinist, a librarian and scout of the chairman and deputy chairman, and so on. These are activities in which I was keen about on campus.

Taiwan has given me a chance at independence, and learn how to live apart from my family. Currently, this is my second year in Taiwan. During these past two years, I have gained a lot of knowledge. I would also often use my holiday time to travel with my classmates. For example, we went to look at the beautiful scenery in Kenting, and the exhibitions in Taipei. I also went to Kaohsiung to nd friends visiting from Hong Kong, and even went looking for Taiwanese friends in Taichung. I love Taiwan.
